Holtzman Oil works closely with local schools and technical centers through donations and internships to create a mutually beneficial partnership. Our relationships with these schools enhances the lives of the students and helps to create a pipeline of new talent in the industry.
Donations:
Holtzman Oil recently donated 2 trucks to the Diesel Technology Program at Massanutten Technical Center, a Freightliner Cascadia with a Detroit Diesel engine and a Chevrolet Silverado with a Duramax Diesel engine. Both have full after treatment systems that use DEF, which the school did not have in their Diesel program and are critical in today’s world for students to be fully educated.
Matt Tusing was there to meet with The Technical Center’s Assistant Director Chris Dalton, Diesel Technology Instructor Lee Smith, and the students as they received the trucks. Mr. Smith said “These trucks are a game changer for instruction in our program. Many times we rely on videos and classroom discussions because we don’t always have the most up-to-date vehicles and materials. On these new trucks, we get to see much more, such as the exhaust system emissions and ride suspension with tractor air and electrical hook ups. As a program, we really appreciate Holtzman Oil Corporation for the donation of these 2 amazing diesel trucks, as they will be an invaluable asset to our program moving forward.”
Internships:
After receiving the donation, a group of students from the Diesel Technology Program at Massanutten Technical Center visited Holtzman Oil Corp, touring our truck shop and meeting with owner, Bill Holtzman.
One of the students from the program, Jackson, is participating in an internship at Holtzman Oil’s truck shop. This position will allow him to learn by doing, working alongside experienced technicians and directly engaging with diesel engines and equipment. Through this industry exposure, Jackson will get a glimpse into daily operations, including work order procedures, general service, and teamwork.
From Student To Intern To Team Member:
The hope is that these interns will go on to a successful career in the field. Weston is a great example of that hope coming to fruition. In 2023, through the relationship with Holtzman, the Instructor of Automotive Technology at Triplett Tech in Mt Jackson contacted us about one of his students. Weston spent 5 months in an internship at Holtzman Oil and after the internship, he completed the University of Northwestern Ohio Diesel Technology Program. He has now been an employee at Holtzman for over a year. Weston said that his experience from the internship definitely helped at UNOH and that he is glad to be back at Holtzman and enjoys his work and the environment here.
These Programs Benefit The Students As Well As The Team
Through these programs, students learn and grow to then practice their trade and provide guidance to the next generation. We look forward to continuing this ongoing process where we give these students the opportunity to learn and hopefully become the next team members at Holtzman. But regardless of where they wind up, their path is brighter for their experience.
